Kīlauea Community Updates and Requests for Action

The Kauaʻi Office of Economic Development recently received proposals for its 2021 Innovation Grants program. The intent of the Innovation Grants is to support new projects that use innovative approaches to solve local problems.

They are inviting the public to view the proposals and provide questions, comments, and scores on the proposals. This community input will be factored into the scoring as part of the selection process. You can view the proposals online here. They encourage community members to read through the descriptions and share your thoughts and ideas on the importance of funding each proposal. With your help, they seek to direct funding to projects focused on solving the problems we experience on Kauaʻi.

The deadline for public review and comment is February 22, 2021. Here are a few projects to consider, from local nonprofit organizations that do so much to support our community.

Āina Hoʻokupu O Kīlauea – Kīlauea Ag Park:
The two projects they are proposing are: Kauaʻi Pig Pen System and Farm Tech.

Anaina Hou:
They have proposed a youth enrichment and training program entitled “The Haven – Ho’ohana Work & Thrive Program.”

Malama Kauai:
Their proposal is “Mobilizing Food for Our Future” to purchase a refrigerated van to expand food distribution capabilities.

You can view the proposals here. Please consider prioritizing and commenting on any or all of the programs you feel are important to our community.

Seeking Your Input:

Our next monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 2nd, will include Larry Dill from the Department of Transportation (DOT). If there are any questions you’d like to pose to Larry, please share them with us at [email protected].
