Kauai General Plan Update, last call for input!

Posted by

The window in which to give official testimony to the Planning Department will end Dec. 16, according to the timeline. With input now, we can still shape the future of Kauai. One way to learn more about the Draft GPU is to attend the final two county open houses: Waimea Theatre, Dec. 5, 6 to 8 p.m., and the Princeville Library, Dec. 6, 10 a.m. to noon, where education and discussion can take place in an informal setting.

You can give your manao to the county planners at the open houses for solutions for infrastructure, traffic, over-development of hotels/condos, non-sustainable growth, conservation of our natural environment and other concerns, as well.

However, if you can’t attend, please write a letter or email the Planning Department where it will become part of the official record. Email your testimony to plankauai@kauai.gov… or by mail at Kauai County Planning Department, Attn: Long Range Division; 4444 Rice St., Suite A473, Lihue, HI 96766. Spread the word on email, trees, social media, and, of course, the Coconut Wireless Here is the link to the draft plan; .www.kauai.gov…

Study to improve pedestrian and bicycle access to the Lighthous.

Posted by

A study of potential improvements for bicycle and pedestrian access to the Kīlauea Point National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) Overlook is underway. The County of Kauai, in partnership with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and support from the Federal Highway Administration Central Federal Lands Division are studying ways to improve connections between Kīlauea and the Kīlauea Point NWR Overlook through the Kīlauea Point Bicycle & Pedestrian Access Project. Opportunities for safe bicycle and pedestrian access from Kīlauea Town along Kīlauea Road to the Kīlauea Point NWR Overlook will be assessed along with new options for the parking configuration and circulation of automobiles, transit, bicyclists, and pedestrians at the Kīlauea Point NWR Overlook.

Please join us in caring for Kahili.  The next Beach Clean-Up at HILT’s Kahili Beach Preserve is scheduled for Saturday, November 19 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. I’ve linked a waiver for participants to complete on-line in advance, please do so if you are planning to attend.  If available, bring along trash bags and gloves (I will have a limited number at the site).  Hope to see you all there!
