August 21 2015 – The American Cancer Society of Kauai is sponsoring a Relay For Life event in Kilauea in August. Come set up a tent, organize a team and help support those fighting and surviving  the plague of our generation. Here is a link to the particulars.

 

Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary

June 19th 2015 – The Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary is preparing to adopt some changes to the sanctuary. The deadline for public comment on this important marine environment sanctuary is June 19th. Understanding the actual mission and structure of the sanctuary is probably a good idea before sending in a comment.

May 23 2015 – There is a new doctors office planned for the Princeville area. The principals involved invite the public to an informative meeting about it.

As you may know from personal experience, residents of the North Shore currently must drive to Kapa’a or Lihue for emergency medical services. An urgent care center on the North Shore is desperately needed, and plans have begun to build one here! A 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the Makana Emergency Center, will be located in Princeville. Please come and meet Dr. Ted Kimball and learn about the new center:

Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge Conservation Plan

March 2015 – Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge draft comprehensive conservation plan; The refuge has completed their comprehensive plan and is submitting it to the public in a mandated public comment period before they ratify it and proceed with the new planning. Hawaiian Islands National Marine Sanctuary Na’kai’ewalu Recruiting

February 2015 – The Community Sanctuary Advisory Counsel is recruiting for several seats on it’s board. Read about the council’s responsibilities on the link in the post below and find the SAC’s application here.

Hawaiian Islands National Marine Sanctuary Na’kai’ewalu; Jean Souza, Kauai coordinator for the Hawaiian Islands National Mrine Sanctuary and the National Marine Sanctuary System spoke recently at the January community meeting and described changes to the name and mission of the Hawaii sanctuary. Attached is information and contacts for residents who want to become involved, volunteer or more well informed; Welcome to the Hawaiian Islands National Marine Sanctuary. Here is a great place to start helping, the annual spring Humpback whale count. A wonderful excuse to sit on the coast and gaze at the ocean! Come count whales!

 

Pay As You Throw Solid Waste Program
